Do you need assistance in Housing Court because of a disability?
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a federal law that requires all courts to provide assistance to people with disabilities so they can fully participate in the court process. ADA accommodations can include ASL interpreters, devices for those with limited vision, and support for appearing remotely.
If you need any accommodation, request it as soon as you know about the case.
There are three ways to submit the request:
- On the court’s website, at https://portal.nycourts.gov/ada-wizard/.
- In an email to the Chief Clerk at [email protected]. Put “ADA Accommodation Request” in the subject line.
- By phone: call (646) 386-5409.
If you are making the request by email or phone, include:
- Your name.
- A brief description of your disability.
- The accommodation(s) you want.
- The name of the case (and number, if you know it).
- The name of the judge (if you know it).
- The date(s) you will be in court.
- Your contact information: mailing address, e-mail address, and phone number.
Do you speak a language other than English?
New York City housing courts provide interpreters free of charge for tenants with limited English proficiency.
