Kaye, the first female Chief Judge of the New York State Court of Appeals. During her tenure, Judge Kaye gained a national reputation for both her groundbreaking decisions and her innovative reforms of the New York court system, including the establishment of specialized courts to focus on issues such as mental health, drug addiction, and domestic violence. In 2012, Legal Services NYC had the honor of presenting Judge Kaye with our Visionary Leadership Award in recognition of her substantial achievements in making New York’s justice system more accessible to all who depend upon it.
