Moving Forward
November 9, 2016, NEW YORK— This election season provided a shocking and constant reminder of the hostility and fear our clients, and all too many of our staff, experience every day. It also provided a powerful reminder of the essential importance of our work, and as we have all seen, our community—the community of advocates that seeks a better, more just world—is already strengthening its resolve.
We are more determined than ever to stand together with our clients, with each other, and with all of our supporters and volunteers as we continue our work seeking racial, social, and economic justice on behalf of low-income New Yorkers. We’ll continue to prevent evictions, save homes from foreclosure, and preserve thousands of subsidized and rent-regulated housing units. We’ll tackle consumer scams and help those in need to obtain critical state and federal benefits. We will protect the rights of low-income students and ensure that children with special needs have access to meaningful education. We’ll help vulnerable New Yorkers, including people who are elderly or disabled and those with HIV, gain and keep public health insurance and other benefits. We’ll fight for the rights of veterans and LGBTQ New Yorkers through citywide initiatives that address the unique challenges they face. And we’ll keep working to secure safety and financial stability for survivors of domestic violence, including adjusting immigration status to put these survivors and their families on the path to citizenship.
Our work will not be easy, but it is more important today than ever before. We thank you all for your commitment, your compassion, and your determination to make the world a more fair and just place for all.
