About Manhattan Legal Services

Manhattan Legal Services (MLS) fights poverty and seeks economic, social, and racial justice for low income Manhattan residents by providing free legal representation, systemic advocacy, and community education. In addition to living below the poverty line, our clients belong to Manhattan’s most disadvantaged populations including immigrants, individuals suffering discrimination, and those needing legal representation as they navigate an unfamiliar and sometimes hostile legal system, such as people living with HIV, the LGBTQI community, individuals with disabilities, the elderly, and survivors of domestic violence.
 
MLS advocates work closely with communities to identify pressing issues and find systemic solutions, thus bringing about lasting change for Manhattan’s most vulnerable residents.
