LawHelp NY Named Semi-Finalist for Collaboration Award
The New York LawHelp Consortium, responsible for developing and maintaining LawHelp/NY, a Web site providing free civil legal information for low-income New Yorkers, has been selected as a semi-finalist for a $250,000 award recognizing exceptional non-profit partnerships. Legal Services NYC is a founding member of the Consortium.
The group was nominated for the prize by Juanita Bing Newton, Deputy Chief Administrative Judge for Justice Initiatives for the New York State Unified Court System. “LawHelp/NY has had an enormous impact not only on its intended beneficiaries, but also on legal services throughout the country as a model for similar sites,” said Judge Newton in her nomination letter. The site has received continuous support from LSC’s Technology Initiative Grants program, which has also provided funding for similar sites in every state in the country. The winner of the award will be announced in January.
